Naniwa: Your Sushi Fix, Delivered

As I've written before, I work. A lot. When I get home after a long day at work, I have two main desires: a) to collapse on the couch, and b) to eat sushi. Luckily, with Naniwa, I can easily achieve both of these lofty, lofty goals.

Trendy, scenester sushi places don't do it for me. I want fresh fish on rice, goddamnit, and I don't need any of this "sexy geisha roll" bullshit. While Naniwa isn't the best sushi in the city (I'm pretty sure I've yet to find that... still looking), it hits the spot and comes right to my door, usually within 20 minutes of picking up the phone and ordering.

Raw fish, straight to my door

When a craving for sushi struck tonight (okay, let's be real, it's more of a constant thing than a 'striking'), so I ordered some Naniwa. I ordered (starting from the top right, going down): hamachi (yellowtail), hirame (flounder), hotategai (scallop), creamy scallop, uni (sea urchin), and ikura (salmon roll). On the left is a california roll with real crab instead of krab- ew.

Everything was fresh and delicious. The yellowtail was buttery and melted away on my tongue. The only thing I didn't like was the creamy scallop, which I didn't even order. I'm pretty sure the woman on the phone misunderstood me and gave me both the regular scallop (which was great- luscious and sweet) and the mayo-covered green abomination you see in the picture above.

Cali roll with real crab- nothing too exciting

The money shot
For delivery sushi on a Monday in a landlocked state, this uni was pretty good. While it wasn't the best uni I've ever had, it was creamy and flavorful without being fishy. My usual sushi favorite, the ikura, was just okay, being a bit saltier than some of the fresher ikura I've had. Even still, even only-decent salmon roe is enough to make this girl happy, especially when I can eat it on the couch in my pajamas.

Naniwa isn't going to blow your mind, but it's still a great option for delivery sushi when your craving for raw fish can't conquer your laziness.

My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
